Five Tips to Bring Your Home Into 2021

2021, we are ready for you and just like in every other aspect of life, our homes are ready for you too!  This past year has shown us how important home is and as such, how important it is to love our spaces. 

It’s time we talk about your home in the best light — it’s time for some New Year, New Home goals.  2021 is all about tone, texture and tech, so we’ve broken down the top five lighting trends for 2021 that you can easily incorporate into your home.

Adding Elements of Warmth

When we talk about adding elements of warmth to your space, we aren’t talking about adding heat pumps and fireplaces (though, we will never ever say no to a cozy fireplace).  We are talking about adding tones and textures that evoke warmth through finishes and materials.  Think soft antique brass, rustic bronze, soft linen.

Adding warm finishes and textures to your space will help create a space that feels comfortable and welcoming.  Even if you prefer that “all white everything” look, you can add elements of warmth though smaller decor pieces and lamps.

Focusing on Sustainability

We LOVE seeing our favourite fixtures being offered in LED.  Even the most traditional fixtures tend to have LED options, and if not, LED bulbs are readily available. 

Making the (very!) easy switch to LED will not only save you some money over the years, but also allow you to feel good about doing your part to help in keeping our planet healthy and happy.

Adding Pops of Colour

This is one of our favourite topics.  Adding pops of colour is always such a fun thing, and your home allows for so many opportunities!  From bright and beautiful lamps, to pastel statement chandeliers, adding pops of color has never been easier.

When determining what colour(s) to add, try to focus on a few key things:

i) Your personality - if you are bright and vibrant, opt for those tones!  Not feeling that bubbly these days?  That’s ok, pops of colour in light hues make for a beautiful statement.

ii) The other elements of your space - find some of your key pieces and determine the pops of colour which complement other finishes, fabrics, paints, and accents.

iii) What you love - ultimately, pops of colour should make you happy!  Select colours that make you smile. 

Finding Structural Statement Items

Whether your space is light, airy and whimsical or you opt for darker, heavy and bold, adding structural statements can help add some balance and structure to your space.  Anything from a bold table lamp to chandelier can add some structure and purpose to your space.

When selecting items that would be considered structural statements, think bold lines, defined borders, solid colours, and items that evoke strength.  Adding these heavier pieces (even if they’re in light and airy colour and finishes) will completely change the dynamic of your space.

Embracing Technology

Ok, no, we aren’t saying you have to run out and completely automate your home (but, you totally can, and that’s awesome!).  What we are saying is embrace the technology that is readily and easily accessible, user friendly, and adds to the design elements of your home.

Our favourite ways to embrace technology are:

i) Opting for beautiful LED fixtures or bulbs.  YES, beautiful!  If you’re still of the mindset that LEDs are bad, blue, and blah, it’s time to also embrace that change in mindset.  LEDs are available in (literally) every colour of the rainbow.  From beautiful, warm hues to club-style bar lighting, LEDs are completely versatile and oh-so necessary for bringing your home into 2021

ii) Beautiful lighting controls.  Again, YES!!!  Dimmers and switches have also evolved and are now a sought after design element.  By adding lighting controls that accent the decor and finishes in your space, you’re adding so much to your walls.  An added bonus?  These beautiful dimmers also have the option of being smart home ready!  So, that whole home automation we mentioned may not be a distant dream, rather a wonderful reality.
